Getting to Know Virginia
If you spend much time in Blowing Rock, you have probably already run into Virginia. Lots of curly, red hair. That's her on the left receiving the Jerry Burns Ambassadorial Award from the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce. She's known to frequent Camp Coffee by Footsloggers, the Speckled Trout, Bistro Roca, and pilates classes at the Country Club.
A Blowing Rock resident since 2007, Virginia's a small town girl originally from the eastern part of North Carolina - Mount Olive - the pickle capital of America. She's a Carolina alumna, but she somehow sent her older daughter to NC State and her older son to WCU. She hoping one or both of the next two will go to Carolina.
When she is not helping people achieve their real estate goals, Virginia tries to give back to our community. That's why she was recognized in November 2023 with the Jerry Burns Ambassadorial Award, which is granted annually to "an individual who has impacted the town in the most positive ways." Virginia is a huge supporter of the Blowing Rock School (you can see her taking pies to the face for Fall Festival in the photo; those kids throw a lot harder than you'd expect) and the Middle Fork Greenway's Task Force. She is active in the Blowing Rock Methodist Church and served on the Blowing Rock Town Council and the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum (BRAHM) Board. Her husband, Ben, is a management professor at Appalachian State University and her webmaster. Blame him (me) for any problems with this website.
